OMG what an awesome show.  US Airways Center, where the Phoenix Suns play, on December 10, 2008. A Wednesday – so I had to take short lunches and use some vacation time to cover it…
Went with buddies, stayed the night at a buddy’s mom’s house (thank you!)…
Opening band was The Answer, a new band from Northern Ireland (Belfast). They were blues-rocky Zepplinesque. The lead guitar player had chops and presence, the lead singer was kinda odd. Rollingstone compared him toe Robert Plant – but I thought he looked more like Plant than sounded like him. So – they were good. No frills. Off the stage in five short songs. Their full album comes out in February or something. Good on them – lucky sots.
AC/DC came on stage – on time  no issues. They played Rock-n-roll train (something like that) and the video behind them was a cartoon of the Angus Demon on a train being seduced by two groupies who then try to stop the train. Lots of penis images (as one of my friends said). I thought it was cool. The backdrop, when they were not using the huge screen behind the stage, was an awesome devil horned steamtrain engine. Great lighting for the entire show. There was a cat walk coming out into the audience that the band did not use too much. The end of the catwalk was a sissor lift which Angus did a solo on (toward the end of the show).  He didn’t move as much as he used to but his guitar playing was spot on. Phil Rudd, the drummer, smoked most of the time – which was amusing to me…

So…anyway, good show. Would love to see them again. They are playing in Dublin Ireland and then Glasgow at the end of June.  I highly suggest going to see them if you can!
